Not much of the time is left for Gears 5. On E3 2019 Xbox Press Conference, Microsoft announced that Gears 5 is releasing on 10th September 2019.  It has also been announced that Gears 5 will not have a season pass or gear packs and all the DLC maps will be free. This is good news to hear because most games have started giving additional content for free as we recently saw in the case of new Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Call of Duty Modern Warfare will also have free content. Gears 5 will focus on earnable content through the new Tour of Duty system. The studio said in a recent post that Gears 5 will not have any season pass or gear packs, all of its DLC maps will be free and in-game purchases will be direct and also there will be no RNG. The tour of duty system will reward players with skin by completing daily and seasonal challenges. The Coalition said there will be no premium pay-only content for Tour of Duty.

Gears 5 new supply drop system will track every minute you play and dish out random items at set intervals. These items will be pulled from supply loot table and by chance, if you receive an item twice it will be converted into scrap automatically. Scrap can be used to upgrade the character's skills and craft new items. You won't be able to purchase supply drops from real money. The game will also feature a premium real money currency called Iron. The studio said Iron exclusive items will not give competitive advantage for real money purchases which is obvious. The game will also sell boosts to speed up progression. This includes double multiplayer XP, escape character XP, double Horde, and double supply drop progression. Boosts will also make unlocking an item much easier.
