Everybody loves console gaming and over 51% of the population in the US have 2 consoles on average. Consoles are really popular and people buy it because it's cheaper than gaming laptops and PCs. There are over millions of console players across the globe and today we are talking about the best selling consoles of all time. With that being said "Doesn't matter on what platform we play, We're all gamers" Let's go for it.


1) PlayStation 2
PlayStation 2  is the best selling console of all time which sold over 159 million units and was the 2nd PlayStation console and came as a successor of original PlayStation. It was first released in Japan on March 4, 2000. At that time, it competed with GameCube, Xbox and Dreamcast which are nowhere near the sales of the PS2. Gamers still consider this console the most legendary one because most of the great games were released on this console like Shadow of the Colossus, GTA San Andreas, Bully and many more. It came with CD/DVD ROM and could play movies also. It was backwards compatible with original PlayStation games. It supports original PS memory cards and controllers. It had so many features at that time and no console used to provide that.


2) Nintendo DS
Nintendo DS sold over 154 million units and became the 2nd most selling console after the PS2. It is a dual-screen handheld console developed by Nintendo and was released in 2004. The DS short for "Developers System" or "Dual Screen". It has great games like Animal Crossing, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS etc. Nintendo always provides something different and never come up short and its consoles are must buy.


3) GameBoy
And this is the 3rd most selling console which sold over 119 million units. It is an 8-bit handheld console by Nintendo and the first GameBoy console in the GameBoy series. It was first released in Japan in 1989. We have so many memories with Nintendo we can't forget and that's the reason why Nintendo will always be on top. It comes with games like Tetris, Super Mario Land, Kirby, Donkey Kong Country, Legend of Zelda etc.


4) PlayStation 
The original PlayStation sold over 103 Million units. It was developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. As always it was first released in Japan on December 3, 1994. As a 5th gen console, it competed with Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. A game console prototype was designed by Sony and Nintendo and it was cancelled but later became this console and look at its popularity now. It has games like Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider etc.


5) Nintendo Wii
This console sold 102 million units. Nintendo has always been on top whether it's on the basis of games or consoles. Recently, Nintendo Switch surpassed lifetime PS4 sales in Japan which is a massive achievement. It is a 7th gen console and competed with PS3 and Xbox 360. Legendary games like Super Mario Galaxy, Mega Man 5, Mario Kart Wii etc. came on this console.

6) PlayStation 4
The 8th generation console which is currently competing with Xbox One and Nintendo Switch sold over 98.8 million units and this figure have chances of increasing in the future also. Still a large number of people buying PS4 because of its big game library which includes masterpieces like God of War, Marvel's Spiderman, Red Dead Redemption 2, Detroit Become Human etc. Sony always provides better exclusive titles and with that thing, it stays 1 step ahead of its competitors.


7) PlayStation 3
This 7th gen console competed with Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. Sold over 89 Million units. It is the successor of PS2 and was first released in Japan on November 11, 2006. This was the first console to support Blu-ray discs. Masterpieces like The Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 1,2,3 came on this console first and then got remastered for PS4.


8) Xbox 360
This console sold over 86 Million units which are slightly less than the PS3 sales but this was considered the best of its time. It was the 2nd console from Microsoft which was released in 2005.

9) GameBoy Advance
It is a 32-bit handheld console developed by Nintendo. It sold over 82 Million units. It was the successor of GameBoy Color and was released first in Japan on March 2001.


10) PlayStation Portable
It is a handheld console which sold over 80 Million units worldwide. It was released in December 2004. It was the first very powerful handheld console and competed with Nintendo's handheld consoles. It has amazing games like God of War Chains of Olympus, God of War Ghost of Sparta, GTA Liberty City Stories, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker etc.
